What is Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a very widespread bacterial infection, which affects both men and women. It is passed from person to person during sexual intercourse and is known as a sexually transmitted disease.

Chlamydia can involve all age groups, but is particularly prevalent in the under 30's age group. Chlamydia can often produce little or no obvious symptoms. Sometimes the symptoms it does produce which can be anything from abdominal pain, inflammation of the genitals, and vaginal discharge in a woman can be mistaken for symptoms of other diseases.

The best way to avoid the spread of Chlamydia is to refrain from sexual contact with someone else or to be in a long-term mutually faithful relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known not to be infected with the virus.

The prevention of Chlamydia is much better than the cure, and everyone needs to be aware of the dangers Chlamydia poses. Practicing safe sex (Using a condom) is practically obligatory in this day and age, even if you are in a stable long-term relationship. You should do this until you are certain of your partners Chlamydia status.
