Playing Russian Roulette With Genital Herpes.
Have you ever seen the game Russian roulette played? A player puts a gun to his head with one bullet in it after rolling the barrel of the gun. He squeezes the trigger and has a one in so many chances of having his brains blown out! That's the risk you take of contracting genital herpes when you have unprotected sex. Many people assume genital herpes is just an infection of the genitalia, (in both sexes), however it can also infect the buttocks, anal area, and depending on the type of sex you're having also around the mouth and face.
In America today one out of five people are infected with genital herpes, with women being more commonly infected than men. In fact in women, the ratio of infection rises to one in four. This number has increased steadily from the 1970's and since then; there has been a shocking 30% rise in the level of infections with most of them occurring in young adults.
How do you know you have genital herpes?
-- You have burning sores on your genitals and/or buttocks and anal area
-- You're running a temperature and feeling weak
At this stage, you need to stop having sex immediately and visit your doctor or sexual health clinic to be diagnosed.
For most people, contracting genital herpes can seem like a life sentence. You feel rough, your genitals feel as though they are on fire, you probably feel like a pariah, and you just know that you're going to have to contact any sexual partners you've had recently to tell them about the infection.
Don't despair; contracting genital herpes is not a life sentence of abstinence from sex or blight on your life. That first attack is usually the worst, and for most people subsequent attacks are much milder and more bearable.
One of the first things you should do once you've had a positive diagnosis, (however much you hate the thought of doing it), is contact any previous sexual partners. It's imperative that they are told you have the herpes virus and there is a possibility they may have contracted it. You owe it both to them and any subsequent sexual partners they may have.
It's a harsh lesson to learn, but you should never have unprotected sex unless you are convinced you are both in a monogamous relationship with each other and have both been tested for any sexually transmitted diseases. And even protected, it's foolhardy even with protection to have sex whilst you are in the middle of an attack of genital herpes.
Play safe, and you play wisely.
I hope this sexually transmitted diseases article was helpful to you, no matter how much... or how little it had to do with HPV and sex.
